Product Description
NOTE — To all who grab a Control Cap:
The dedicated outer retaining ring will be available in late July for just the cost of shipping.
(In the meantime, simply swap the metal cap out using your existing air cap ring — no waiting required.)
Engineered for Metallics and UHS Clear Coats
The Control Cap is the optional second air cap for the Apex Spray Gun — designed specifically for the jobs where your standard cap falls short.
The Problem It Solves
Standard air caps use a wide center orifice that works well for most materials. But when you're spraying metallic basecoats or ultra-high-solid (UHS) clear coats, that geometry creates problems: inconsistent flake orientation, tiger-striping on metallics, and poor atomization on thick, high-viscosity clears.
How the Control Cap Works
The Control Cap features a tight center orifice that creates sharp initial atomization — breaking paint into finer, more uniform particles before they hit the surface. The result:
- ✅ Uniform metallic flake orientation — no tiger-striping, no mottling
- ✅ Extremely fine atomization on UHS clear coats that standard caps struggle to break up
- ✅ Predictable fan pattern — consistent edge-to-edge, every pass
Who Needs the Control Cap?
Add the Control Cap if you regularly spray:
- Metallic basecoats (fine flake, coarse flake, or candy)
- UHS (ultra-high-solid) clear coats
- Any high-viscosity material that your Flow cap struggles to atomize cleanly
If you spray primarily primers, single-stage urethanes, and standard clears — the Flow cap that ships with the Apex handles those jobs. The Control Cap is for painters who need both.
Compatibility
The Control Cap is designed exclusively for the Apex Spray Gun by Spray Work. It is not compatible with other spray gun brands.
Ships together with your Apex — one box, one delivery, no separate order to track.
